How to Reduce Dust Mites
Although dust mites are
difficult to remove completely from your home, there are steps that can be taken
to reduce their population.
Here's How:
- Reduce surface dust by wet mopping, vacuuming, and dusting frequently.
- Refrain from using wall to wall carpeting if possible.
- Use wooden, leather, or plastic-covered sofas and chairs instead of
upholstered furniture.
- Use washable curtains or window shades instead of venetian blinds or heavy
draperies.
- Keep inside humidity at 50 percent or lower to slow down mite growth.
- Change or clean air conditioner and furnace filters often.
- Use nonallergenic, washable bedding materials.
- Enclose pillows, mattress, and box springs in nonallergenic casings.
- Wash all bedding in hot water once a week.
- Avoid accumulating clutter or using knick knacks.
Tips:
- Wear a dust mask while vacuuming or leave the home while it is being
vacuumed.
